  • 1. How often should I clean my shower?

We recommend cleaning your shower at least once a week, using the proper cleaners for your specific tile. We don’t recommend vinegar, since it is acidic and can damage the finish on certain natural stones. It can also diminish any stone sealer and grout sealer that may have been applied. We carry a cleaning product that is safe for both tile, grout, and natural stone.  Don’t forget to leave your vent fan and light on after using the shower, for 15 - 20 minutes, depending on the humidity level and time of year. Another good habit to adapt is to squeegee after showering; this, along with the above cleaning, will help to keep lime build up and mold at bay.

  • 2. Can I steam clean my hardwood?

No, do not steam clean any solid or engineered wood flooring. The extra moisture can damage your floors. Vinegar is not recommended either. Always refer to the wood floor manufacturer’s warranty, and contact the store where you purchased the flooring from, for additional information.  We carry wood floor cleaning products at our store.

  • 3. Is engineered wood real wood?

Yes, engineered wood is real wood. The top layer is a solid wood veneer, and this is where quality matters. Some less expensive engineered wood  floors have a very thin top layer, while the better quality floors have a thicker wear layer, and can be sanded and refinished several times.  Engineered wood is less likely to warp, expand, and  contract, due to the multiple layers of laminated plywood that are beneath the solid wood top layer. This, as well as wide planks and below grade installations, are all benefits over solid ¾” wood.

  • 4. How often should I clean my carpet?

Vacuum your carpet at least once a week, or more often if you have a lot of foot traffic, or shedding pets. Professional carpet cleaning is necessary to keep your carpet looking good, and to maintain the manufacturer’s warranty.  Hot water extraction is recommended every 12 - 18 months, unless you have a natural fiber carpet or area rug; please consult the manufacturer or store for the correct cleaning method (too much heat is not safe for most natural fiber products).
